About

The Australian Country singer, Slim Dusty had a hit with A Beer With Duncan. A few pivotal lines sum up a simple theme:

We drink at the Town and Country,
where the atmosphere is great.
I love to have a beer with Duncan,
‘Cause Duncan’s me mate.

Town and Country Hotel

Duncan was written by the then insurance salesman, Pat Alexander. He had met Duncan Urquhart, the owner of a heat-treatment factory in St Peters (Sydney, NSW) and was trying to sell him an insurance policy. Duncan had suggested that they discuss the matter over a beer at the local pub (the Town and Country Hotel in St. Peters), where they met several times, and Pat thought up the song whilst driving home from one of those meetings.
